Lifelong Learning Begins in Kindergarten
The ages of 3-6 are a crucial period in which approximately 80% of an adult’s personality is formed. During this time, learning occurs naturally and effortlessly, and acquired knowledge is reinforced through practice and repetition. At our kindergartens, we provide a language-rich environment, where children are immersed in a foreign language from an early age. Learning a language in fun, meaningful contexts ensures that it is retained effectively. Foreign language instruction is conducted in settings appropriate to the topic, using methods that enhance students’ practical skills.
Our Goal in English Education
Across all our schools, our aim is for students to develop strong language skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing) from kindergarten through high school. We want them to express themselves effectively in a foreign language, both orally and in writing, just as they do in their native language.
Crossroads – English Language Program
İSTEK Schools have implemented the Crossroads Program, which enables students to experience English not only as a subject but as an integral part of everyday life. Students have opportunities to interact with English teachers throughout the day, learning to communicate naturally in all settings. Lessons are conducted simultaneously in both Turkish and English, so English becomes an essential communication tool rather than just another subject.
The Crossroads Program is offered to kindergarten 5- and 6-year-olds and 1st-grade primary students. Students spend 24 hours per week with both native and Turkish English teachers, practicing English during meals, playtime, outdoor activities, and structured lessons. This immersive approach strengthens language acquisition while preparing students to communicate effectively in multicultural and multilingual environments in the future.
While reading and writing skills are taught in Turkish by classroom teachers, visual English literacy activities are also included in the kindergarten curriculum. In 1st grade, English teachers collaborate with classroom teachers during Life Skills, Mathematics, Games, and Physical Education lessons. Additionally, students are encouraged to use English during daily routines, including breakfast, lunch, playtime, and outdoor activities.
