Our mission at ISTEK Schools, mindful of the renaissance started by Atatürk, is to educate our students to become successful individuals committed to scientific inquiry, universal values, intercultural understanding and life-long learning who will have a positive impact on the future of Turkey and the World at large.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) MISSION STATEMENT
The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
The IB (International Baccalaureate) aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To achieve this, the IB works with schools, governments and international organisations to develop programmes that are based on international education, assess student development in a multifaceted way and provide opportunities for students to maximise their potential. These programmes encourage students around the world to become active, caring and lifelong learners who understand that people can be right even when they are different.
The aim of schools implementing the educational programmes developed by the IB is to cultivate individuals with an international mindset who contribute to creating a better and more peaceful world, mindful of all humanity and the planet we share.

Primary Years Programme (PYP) at our school
The PYP (Primary Years Programme) aims to develop students aged 3-12 academically, socially, physically, emotionally and culturally. The PYP is an educational and teaching approach based on an international curriculum model that guides what students should learn, teaching methods, and assessment strategies.
The National Education Programme is fully implemented at our school under the PYP framework. All units are addressed within an inquiry context that includes cross-curricular connections. What is learned through this transdisciplinary inquiry programme is brought together and children are encouraged to make connections with life outside school.
Based on the idea that children continue to learn not only in the classroom but also in different environments in the outside world, the PYP focuses on the holistic development of the individual. It has created a teaching framework that addresses the academic, social, cultural and emotional needs of children.
The PYP clearly states that knowledge alone is not sufficient; appropriate concepts and skills must also be developed. The PYP strives to strike a balance between acquiring basic knowledge and skills, developing conceptual understanding, and engaging in responsible action.
Units and topics covered outside of units are taught with the aim of encouraging children to understand through inquiry rather than learning by rote.
İSTEK BARIŞ SCHOOLS PYP JOURNEY
Our school began implementing the IB PYP curriculum as a candidate school in 2008. It was authorised as an IB World School in 2012. The first programme evaluation visit took place during the 2014–2015 academic year. The second programme evaluation visit took place during the 2020–2021 academic year. The third programme evaluation visit will take place during the 2025–2026 academic year. Our school will continue to undergo evaluation visits every five years.
